Week 1

The old cathedral in the centre of Trento......

......overlooked by figures frescoed onto the walls......

......shown here in more detail.

Pete decided to throw something together quickly for dinner one evening. Just a basic Coq au Vin!

We made a short but steep trek up to the Mausoleo di Cesare Battisti, which you can see on the mountainside when you walk out of Trento train station. This shot was taken when we were just having a breather on the way up......

......and here is the monument in all its glory.

The view from the monument back over Trento is pretty expansive!

Trento celebrated Palm Sunday with a procession through the town, arriving at the Duomo for the afternoon service.

As you can see, there were people from all walks of life in the procession......

......and plenty of olive branches!
First time ever this week:
Skiing (or tumbling as is a more accurate description)
What I like about Italy this week:
The train fares - an hour's journey is only 5.85Euros!
The architecture of Trento - it's a change from concrete and glass everywhere!
The information boards outside buildings in Trento - they're all over!
The drunk in Piazza del Duomo on the first day: dressed in a police jacket, blowing a whistle and trying to direct traffic, including the police cars!
Cheap alcohol - a litre of wine for 89 cents? Daylight robbery.
What I dislike about Italy this week:
The administration system at Trento University. They don't want foreign students (perhaps they don't want Italian students either) but they are very unwelcoming and are desperate to pass you onto someone else as quickly as possible. We spent two days on a wild goose chase for paperwork!
The climate/altitude/air pressure/whatever is causing my asthma to unexpectedly return in March!
What I miss about/from the UK this week:
Sarah!
My bed!
My inhaler!
